What Is a Webinar?

Think about a webinar as a way to attend a conference without leaving home. Using your computer, you can see the presenter’s slides (watching over an internet connection) and you can use your computer or telephone to hear the presentation.

You can also participate using your iPad, iPhone or Android device, downloading the free GoToMeeting app in advance from the App Store or Google Play (WiFi connection recommended).

No matter how you access the presentation, you won’t be able to see the presenter or the moderator, or others attending the program — and they won’t be able to see you. (A plus if you want to attend in your pajamas!)

Please register ahead of time to reserve your space and obtain instructions for joining the program on the scheduled day and time. Keep the email confirmation handy because you’ll need this information at the time of the program. You can find the schedule of programs and registration links as they’re made ready right here, on our Upcoming Events page.


A few minutes before the scheduled presentation, sign on to the URL specified in the confirmation email. You’ll have to download some software to your computer, so make sure your security firewall settings allow for this (especially if you have Vista). This software gives you the ability to see the presenters’ slides on your computer, plus any highlighting or drawing he/she might do during the presentation.

You can also see the presentation using your Free GoTo Meeting app for iPad, iPhone or Android devise (download from the App Store or Google Play).


To hear the conference you can either use your computer’s microphone and speakers using VoIP (a USB headset is recommended) or by telephone.

For telephone users, a conference call line and passcode number will be provided in the confirmation email. You’ll probably hear music or silence until the program begins. Please keep your phone on mute during call, unless you are speaking.

If your internet access is not very fast (dial-up), you can still listen to the audio portion by calling the telephone number. In most cases, you’ll be charged regular rates for your phone time.

If using your iPad, iPhone or Android devise with the free GoToMeetings app (downloaded from the App Store or Google Play), WiFi connection is recommended for microphone and speaker use.


Unite Narcolepsy will use GoToWebinar for its online programs. This is a popular program and if you’ve participated in other webinars, you might find our setup to be similar to ones you’ve used in the past. Information requested from participants both at registration and after the webinar is protected by our privacy policy. The GoToWebinar site is secure.
